Deck of Haunts Unleashes Second Major Update with Creatures, Cards, Rooms & More!

From bathroom drains to mischievous imps, this is the biggest free content drop yet + a demo release on Xbox!

16 September 2025 – Mantis Games has announced the second major free content update for its sinister deckbuilding roguelike, Deck of Haunts. The update launches on September 16th on Steam, bringing a monstrous infusion of new horrors, including the long-awaited addition of Creatures, brand new haunting cards, cursed rooms, and two new Starter Decks.

Following on the heels of June’s massive Nightmares & Scythes Update, which introduced Nightmare Mode and the Grim Reaper himself, this latest release is the most expansive update yet, proving the haunted house never stops growing. Players can haunt with 26% new content for free, while newcomers can grab the game at an equally sinister 25% off on Steam for a limited time from September 15 to 22.

Deck of Haunts has also haunted its way onto Xbox, with a demo now playable as part of the ID@Xbox Indie Selects Demo Fest!

What’s New in the Update

New Creatures: At last, the haunted mansion has a life of its own. Summon ghastly allies to stalk your halls and torment humans, such as mischievous Imps, which can be conjured through Spawn Cards. Each creature brings unique ability cards into your deck while active, letting you control their powers directly.

New Cards: Build your deck around your haunted house like never before. Cards such as Architect’s Toll and Crushing Architecture gain power based on room tile size, while Unstable Foundation can topple entire strategies.

New Rooms: Terrorize intruders in sinister new chambers, including the Bathroom, where all drain effects are doubled, a perfect counter to the once-safe Weapons Room.

New Humans: A new batch of prey are storming the mansion (or so they think), each with unique traits and behaviors that will test your malevolent strategies.

New Starter Decks: Master the mansion with two brand-new ways to play. The Creature Starter Deck and the (bonus!) Creative Starter Deck, offering wild new strategies to keep intruders guessing.

In Deck of Haunts, you are the haunted house.

By day, meticulously construct your mansion room by room, placing traps, spirits, and eerie anomalies to build a twisting, cursed domain. As night falls, lure humans into your lair and let the haunting begin. With a deck of fear-inducing cards at your disposal, you'll bend reality, shift hallways, summon specters, and drive intruders to the brink of madness. Once their sanity shatters, you’ll extract their essence to fuel your growing power and expand your mansion.

But your rise in infamy won’t go unchallenged. The more essence you claim, the stronger your enemies become, from skeptical police to holy exorcists and the ominous Stone Masons who seek to end your reign of terror.

Craft Your Deck of Haunts - Unlock and collect new cards as you progress. Expand your deck to include tools of terror like bone-chilling screams, phantoms, creaking floors, and shifting walls. Use your cards to scare, or kill, your victims to extract their essence.
Build Your Mansion - Strategically design your haunted house by placing rooms that serve to protect your Heart room, the literal beating heart of your ghostly manor. Construct a maze filled with traps, scares, and unique twists, all tailored to frighten and confuse your visitors. Utilize special rooms with unique powers to aid in your hauntings.
Sow Tension and Fear - As humans navigate your mansion, increase the tension by playing haunt cards directly on them or cast special effects on different rooms. Slowly drive them to insanity. Once their fear reaches critical levels, use the right haunts to push them to the brink of madness. Don't let a single soul escape!
Harvest Essence - Once you've driven the explorers mad with fear, extract their essence to grow your mansion. Use it to unlock new rooms, expand your haunting powers, and attract more dangerous (and rewarding) targets. Consume all who dare step foot inside.
Endless Mode - Unlockable after certain conditions are met, this mode lets you test your haunting prowess in an infinite nightmare.
